The inaugural four day Killarney August Festival Race Meetings begins tomorrow (Tuesday 18th to Friday 21st of August). Everyday is an evening meeting (with start times of approx 5pm) and highlights include a celebration of the legendary trainer, Vincent O Brien, with the only listed race in Kerry, on Tuesday 18th; Family Day on Wednesday 19th, full National Hunt card on Thursday 20th and the inaugural Best Dressed Friends Competition with a fabulous trip to the 4 Star Kilkenny Ormonde, to be won for up to four fashionable friends on Friday 21st of August. Tuesday 18th of August The August Race meeting opens on Tuesday evening with a fitting celebration and tribute to the Irish racing legend, Vincent O Brien. The occasion will be attended by his wife Mrs. Jacqueline O Brien and other leading personalities from the Irish racing world. The racing focus of the day is the only listed race in Kerry, the Vincent O Brien Stakes. To further celebrate this occasion, Killarney Race Company are producing a limited edition, commemorative race card, featuring over 20 pages of previously unseen photographs, personal recollections and racing facts and tributes to the legendary trainer.
Wednesday 19th of August is Family Day at the Killarney Races. Face Painting, entertainment and lots of fun for the young and young at heart. Kids under 14 years free (with one adult). Mick Galwey and other well known Irish Rugby stars from past and present will also be attending the races on Wednesday.
Thursday 20th of August features an all National Hunt Card with top quality jump racing.
Friday 21st of August Best Dressed Friends judged by Celebrity Amanda Brunker
Killarney Races is already well established as one of the most stylish and fashionable race meetings in Ireland today. For the inaugural August race meeting, a new Best Dressed Best Friends competition will be held on the closing day of the meeting, Friday 21st of August. This innovative and imaginative Best Dressed Competition is open to everyone - ladies and the gents too . . . of every age. So round up your fashionable friends and come along to the races and you and up to four friends could win a fabulous, 4 star escape to the luxurious Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel. Remember any friends can enter, including school friends, college or work buddies, mothers and daughters, cousins, team mates - the combinations are endless! You need at least one friend to enter (max entry is 4) and entry is open to all and absolutely free. The competition will be judged by former Miss Ireland and author Amanda Brunker. As well as winning the luxury escape to the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, the winners of the Best Dressed Friends title will also be presented with copies of Champagne Babes. Judging takes place in the Corporate Suite and the winner will be announced at 7.30pm (approx). To celebrate the end of a successful festival season of racing in Killarney, top musician and performer, Liam O Connor, and his dancers, will entertain for free in the main bar at the course.
