Award Winning Milliner launches new collection inspired by 40s Glamour
Award winning Millinery, Kathleen McAuliffe unveiled her new collection of hats for 2009/10 Season. Drawing upon a number of influences, in particular, 40s old Hollywood glamour, her collection uses only the finest materials personally sourced by Kathleen from suppliers worldwide.
Based from her workshop in the Maherees, Co. Kerry, and an enchanting store in the heart of Dingle town, Kathleen McAuliffe, and her husband Niall Mellon, personally design and hand create an extensive selection of beautiful hats and head pieces, accessories and jewellery for all occasions including weddings, the races, cocktail pa
rties and everyday wear . . . and of course, just for some glamorous fun.
Kathleen was the winner of the prestigious Kerry Fashion Accessory Designer of the Year Award 2009 judged by established fashion designers, Louise Kennedy and Don O Neill and Editor of Image, Melanie Morris.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION ON KATHLEEN MCAULIFFE
Kathleen studied for her Honors Degree in Fine Art Painting at Camberwell School of Art, London. Later going onto do Millinery at the London College of Fashion and afterwards as an apprentice to Milliner to the Queen Maria O’Regan. (Indeed this was rather in keeping with tradition (!) as Kathleen’s own Great Aunt, Mrs Maude Legg was herself personal milliner to both the Queen and the Queen Mother).
To pay her way through college she worked at Browns of South Molton Street and for the Hat Shop in Covent Garden. On Sundays she sold her first hat designs at Greenwich Market.
Ireland
Tiring of London she moved to Co Kerry in 1994 and met her husband and fellow millinery Niall Mellon. Surrounded by the stunning beauty of the Dingle peninsula, together they set up Kathleen McAuliffe Millinery which now supplies stores in Ireland, UK, France, USA, Japan and Germany, including bespoke boutiques in Paris, London and New York. Through word of mouth, an ever-increasing number of private customers are now calling Kathleen’s workshop to have hats custom created in their choice of colours, to complement their wardrobe. All of Kathleen McAuliffe’s collections can be created in a range of colours and materials to meet customer requirements.
In 2003, Kathleen and her husband Niall Mellon also set up their shop in Dingle town to showcase their designs. Having a retail outlet has allowed them expand their range to include jewellery, bags and scarves. (As well as her own collections, Kathleen stocks a seasonal collection from Philip Treacy and Orla Kiely).
Twice a year Kathleen travels to source unique accessories, which are not normally found in most cities, let alone the most westerly town in Europe.
Kathleen McAuliffe currently wholesales her creation at Dublin Fashion Week and Showcase Ireland and collaborates with a number of top designers to create hats and head pieces to complement their collections.
