Gillians Family of Friends wins first Prize at Killarney Festival Races on Friday
Fashion competition judged by former Miss Ireland
and well known author, Amanda Brunker
Amanda Brunker choose 3 generations of the Gilbourne family as the winners of the Best Dressed Friends Fashion competition at Killarney Festival Races on Friday 21st of August. From Miltown, County Cork, Gillian Gilbourne and her husband Raymond, attended the races with their 3 year old daughter Shelagh Jessica and Gillian’s mother Sheila Kelleher. Wearing co - ordinating outfits in purple, pink and black, their dress sense won them a 2 night escape to the luxury Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel, specially commissioned crystal and copies of Amanda’s book Champagne Babes.
Amanda also gave special merit awards to Mary, Naomi and Talitha Kelliher from Killorglin and Ailbhe and Brian Duffy from Galway. This was the inaugural year of the Best Dressed Friends Fashion Competition at the Killarney Races. To encourage fashionistas to get involved and have some fun, the event was open to everyone - ladies and the gents . . . of every age and every combination including school friends, college or work buddies, mothers and daughters, cousins, team mates, spouses and more! Over 30 group entries were received and organisers were delighted with innovative theming and exceptional style of everyone who participated. After final judging everyone was treated to a free performance by Liam O Connor and his dancers in the main bar. An upbeat and magical end to a warm and sunny afternoon at the Killarney Races.
Widely regarded as one of the most popular and fashionable race meetings in Ireland today, Killarney Festival Race Meetings (May, July and now in August) attract capacity crowds to what is certainly one of the most scenic race courses in Europe. The location of the race course in close proximity to the heart of Killarney town (one of Ireland’s premier tourist destinations) allows race-goers to enjoy the fun filled atmosphere long into the night due to numerous post racing events held in venues throughout the town during the festival.
This years four day August festival had all evening meetings. Thursdays meeting was cancelled due to weather conditions and has now been rescheduled to Wednesday 26th of August.
